There will be no regular OnePlus 10 variant

For the past couple of years, OnePlus has been releasing two variants of its main flagship phones. The regular variant was always the more affordable option out of the two with the Pro variant coming fully loaded. We expected the company to continue its trend this year with the OnePlus 10 series. However, that’s not the case. According to Tech Radar, OnePlus will not launch a regular OnePlus 10 this year. OnePlus confirmed this during an MWC media briefing. This means that, as it stands, there will be only one main OnePlus phone launch this year. The last time that happened was with the OnePlus 6. We’re not sure if we will get another variant later on in the year. It’s unclear why OnePlus decided to make this move or why the company didn’t just call this one the OnePlus 10. This makes us wonder what the company’s plan is moving forward. It’s possible that this could have been influenced by Oppo. The companies merged last year, and we’re seeing some changes as far as OnePlus is concerned.

There is, however, another 5G phone coming

While there’s no regular OnePlus 10 coming, it doesn’t mean that the company doesn’t have some goodies in store. Chris Shu, the VP Head of Production Strategy gave us a bit of good news. He introduced us to the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. For the most part, this phone is nothing to write home about. It’s a basic budget-friendly phone with modest specs and a subdued design. What’s really remarkable about this phone is that it’s a really affordable 5G phone. How affordable? Well, it costs 299€, which translates to roughly $330. That’s an astonishing price for a 5G phone. This will be a big move to both put 5G phones into more hands and bring down the average price of a 5G phone. OnePlus fans will, undoubtedly, love to have a 5G phone that cheap.
