How to delete your Instagram account

The first thing you’ll need to do is make sure you’re logged in. Not many people are logged into Instagram on their computers, or generally via a browser, so if you’re not, you’ll need to do that. Navigate to Instagram.com, and log in.

Once you’ve done that, open this link. Instagram actually has a special tool online that will help you get rid of your account, but you have to jump through hoops to find the link. That’s why we provided it for you. That link will take you directly to a part of Instagram.com you should be on. As you can see, this is a tool for deleting your account. Instagram does say that you can temporarily disable your account instead of disabling it, but we’re here for a full wipe. So, as you can see, Instagram asks you why you want to delete your account. You’ll need to tap on the drop-down menu to find the available answers, and choose one.

As you can see, there are quite a few options available here. Instagram will do everything it can to push you in the other direction. Depending on what answer you choose, you may end up being thrown to Instagram’s help center. That will happen if you’ve chosen an answer for a specific issue, or something of the sort. I, for the purpose of this tutorial, decided to click “Something else”.

At that point, I was asked to re-enter my password, as shown below.

Once you do that, you’ll be able to click the “Delete [your profile name]” button at the bottom. One thing to note is that your account details won’t be immediately deleted. Instagram will keep them around for 30 days, in case you change your mind. Your profile and posts will be hidden, though. Once the 30-day period is over, however, you won’t be able to get your account back.
