And today, we are going to show you how you can set up Familiar Face Detection for your Nest Cameras.

What is Familiar Face Detection?

Familiar Face Detection is an intelligent feature that will let you know when a specific person comes to your home or is seen in and around your home. Say you have the Nest Doorbell, and your mom comes over. Nest can tell you that it saw your mom, instead of just a person. Making the notification a bit more useful.

However, Familiar Face Detection is one of the features that is only included in the Nest Aware subscription. Nest Aware does come with a number of other features, including other alerts for sound detection, and being able to call emergency services if needed. You can learn more about Nest Aware more here.

How to turn on Familiar Face Detection

Before you can really set up Familiar Face Detection, you’ll need to make sure it is turned on, for your Nest devices. So, open the Google Home app. Then tap on the Settings icon.

Next, Tap on Nest Aware, and then Familiar Face Detection. Now you can turn on or off Familiar Face detection for each camera.

And now Familiar Face Detection is turned on.

How to add familiar faces to your Nest camera

To add Familiar Faces to your Nest cameras, open the Google Home app and tap on the Settings icon. Then tap on Nest Aware.

The first option should be “Familiar Face Detection”, tap on that. Next, the app will show you new faces that it has seen, followed by faces that it already knows to detect. Tap on the “new faces” button.

Now, it’ll show you each familiar face, along with a clip of the person being seen by the camera. So you can see who exactly this is. Below that, there is a question that says “Do you know this person?” and you can select, yes, no or not a person. If you select “yes”, it’ll then ask for a name. Tap on “Yes” and then you can enter a name.

And that’s it. That’s how easy it is to add a person to the familiar face detection feature on your Nest Camera.
