The July SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy A72 in the Asian market is rolling out with firmware version A725FXXU4BVG1. The update is initially available to users in Russia and India but should soon cover other countries in the region. The official changelog mentions camera-related improvements for the phone. The device is also getting some system stability improvements along with this month’s vulnerability fixes. The latest update for the Galaxy A72 in Latin America, meanwhile, doesn’t bring anything extra. It’s only security fixes for Samsung’s 2021 premium mid-ranger. The update bears the firmware version A725MUBS4BVE4 and is already available widely in the region. We can confirm the rollout in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and a bunch of other countries. As Samsung detailed earlier this month, the July SMR contains fixes for more than 60 vulnerabilities. The majority of those issues are specific to the company’s Android devices. Some of those security flaws affected its Knox security platform, Contacts, Messages, App Lock, and other core services. The latest release also contains patches for 23 Android OS vulnerabilities from Google, including three critical fixes. Along with the Galaxy A72, these vulnerability fixes have also recently rolled out to Samsung’s Galaxy M53 and Galaxy M62 smartphones. These M-series devices aren’t as widely available as the A-series, but if you’re rocking either of the aforementioned two models, the latest security update is on your way. You can check for updates from the Software update section in the Settings app.

The Galaxy A72 may receive fewer security updates in the future

Samsung launched the Galaxy A72 in March last year. The company has placed the device on the quarterly security update schedule. While the updates have come more frequently than once in three months, with the handset seldom missing a monthly patch, it may not be the case in the future. The Galaxy A72 will likely receive security updates less frequently as it gets older. However, the phone will get two more major Android OS updates in its lifetime. Debuting with Android 11, the Galaxy A72 has already picked up Android 12. The device will get updates to Android 13 and Android 14 before it ceases to exist.
