Tech companies typically tap sports teams and events in order to spread the word about their brands. Suffice to say, sports are really popular, so landing a sponsorship or a deal could really mean a lot of money for the tech company involved.
Google sponsorship leads to Google-branded McLaren racecars
This is one reason that Google looked to partner with the McLaren MX Extreme E Team. According to 9To5Google, the company stated that it wanted to use this opportunity to help the team overall. This partnership involves the team using the Chrome browser and 5G-enabled Android phones for an undisclosed number of years. Google says that this is to “support the drivers and team, with the goal of improving on-track performance.” While that sounds noble, we can surmise that it’s mostly for extra exposure. Speaking of exposure, the centerpiece of this sponsorship is the set McLaren racecars adorned with Google branding. The formula 1 cars have some prominent Google branding that makes it clear that the company McLaren is definitely with Team Google. The Android logo is displayed on the top section of the car and the wheels almost form the Google Chrome logo. While there is other branding on the car, Google’s is more prominent.

Google has several events throughout the year, but Google I/O is the biggest. It’s a developer conference that happens every year in the spring. This year, the date was tipped by the company itself. The company sent out clever SVD riddles for people to solve. When you solve the riddles, you’ll see that the event will take place on May 11th and May 12th. We’re going to hear about what’s coming with Android 13 and other things Google has been doing over the last year. We also expect to get the beta for Android 13 on the day. Other than that, we’re not sure what else the company will talk about. Other potential topics could include the new Tensor chip, the Pixel 6a, the Pixel NotePad, and Android 12L. You should take that with a grain of salt, as Google I/O is a primarily software-based conference.
