According to the official changelog, this update makes some system tweaks, optimizations, or adjustments to the OnePlus 8T to offer the optimum experience with the newly-launched OnePlus Buds Pro. The company doesn’t go into detail about what has changed under the hood though. Next up, we have a new screenshot feature for AOD (always on display), so you can now capture your fancy custom AOD setup and… share it with friends? Anyways, talking about AOD, the ambient display feature is getting Bitmoji AOD with the latest update. Co-designed with Snapchat, it lets you create your personal Bitmoji avatar that you can add to your lockscreen to “liven up” the ambient display. Your avatar adapts to your activity and “things happening around you.” OnePlus also promises optimizations to the portrait mode feature for the front camera. That should mean better selfie portraits. The changelog further mentions a fix for the “failed issue of Navigation gestures in some scenes”. We are not sure what the problem was but it’s been fixed. There’s of course, a pointer that says “improved system stability and fixed known issues.” For users in India, the latest OxygenOS update for the OnePlus 8T also automatically installs the OnePlus Store app. We’ve seen Samsung do so in the past and we know that OnePlus is quite fond of the Korean behemoth. Thankfully, you can uninstall the app after the update has been completed. Of course, the OnePlus Store app is already available for download from the Google Play Store. Last but not least, the new update is introducing the latest, August 2021 Android security patch to the OnePlus 8T. Not very often do we see OnePlus release the latest security update to its devices this soon these days. So that’s worth noting here.

OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are also receiving this update

It’s not just the OnePlus 8T that’s receiving this software update. Its cheaper siblings — the vanilla OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro — are also being treated with the same set of goodies. In fact, these two devices received the new update first, as the rollout began a couple of days back. The OnePlus 8T is joining them now. Anyways, if you’re using a OnePlus 8 series phone, a new update should hit your device anytime now if it hasn’t already. Note that it’s an incremental update, so it could take a few days before the OTA (over the air) package reaches your unit. You can head over to Settings » System » System updates on your phone and look out for the following builds:

North America: 11.0.10.10.KB05AAEurope: 11.0.10.10.KB05BAIndia: 11.0.9.9.KB05DA
