Twitter Blue subscription does require phone number verification

Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter we’ve seen quite a few changes. Some of them were made quickly, and without too much thought, others not so much. We’ve seen various ideas for Twitter Blue come from Elon Musk, but the final product is a bit different than he intended at first. Some of you probably recall that quickly after Elon Musk took over, Twitter Blue was changed a bit to include a more expensive payment plan, but also that blue verification tick. That allowed basically anyone to get verified, and cause all kinds of havoc on Twitter. Twitter quickly realized its mistake, and decided to get back to the drawing table. It took them a bit of time, but the new and improved Twitter Blue is here, and it does require phone number verification. That makes all the sense in the world as the Twitter Blue subscription does come with a verification tick. The new Twitter Blue costs $8 a month, $11 a month for iOS users. Why is it more expensive on iOS? Well, to offset Apple’s App Store tax, basically. Elon Musk was very displeased when he found out about it.

There are three different verification ticks now

As we reported recently, there are three different verification ticks now. The blue ones remain included for most people who get verified. Gold verified badges will be included for companies, and gray ones for political and multilateral accounts. Twitter Blue does deliver some other perks as well. Editing tweets is also a part of the package, as are 1080p video uploads. You’re also getting the reader mode feature, and subscribers will soon also get priority ranking in search, mentions, and replies. One final thing to note is that accounts need to be at least 90 days old, and have a verified phone number in order to be eligible to get the Twitter Blue subscription.
