The new price is effective immediately for new subscribers. If you subscribe to the YouTube Premium family plan today, you’ll have to pay $22.99 monthly ($29.99 a month if you subscribe through the Apple App Store). However, for existing users, the added cost will only reflect on their monthly billing cycle starting on or after November 21st. And if you’re a premium subscriber since the YouTube Red days, the price hike will not apply to you until April next year. You’ll continue paying $14.99 per month for the service for six more months. “As a long-standing and valued member, you are currently paying a lower rate for Premium than the rate available to new subscribers. To show our appreciation for your loyalty, we’re giving you at least four extra months at your current price before the price increase will impact your plan. Your price will not increase before your April billing date,” Google said in the email seen by Android Headlines. The company will notify such users again at least 30 days before the new price is effective for them.

YouTube Premium gets its first major price hike

YouTube Premium family plan gives ad-free access to YouTube and YouTube Music for up to six people in your household. The service has had the same price for a long time now, but not anymore. It is getting a price hike of more than 25 percent. This is the first major price hike for YouTube Premium itself, though the individual and student plan still cost the same — $11.99 per month ($119.99 annually) and $6.99 per month, respectively. We wouldn’t be surprised if the company raises the prices for these plans too, though. Along with the US, the YouTube Premium family plan is also getting a price hike in Canada, the UK, Japan, Argentina, and a few other countries. Some regions are seeing a hike for the individual plan as well (via 9to5Google). Google will likely raise YouTube Premium prices in more markets in the coming days. The company says it will notify users at least a month (30 days) ahead of a price change. If you’re a YouTube Premium subscriber, keep an eye on your email inbox.
